MudBugs (Pic)

Mudbugs done correctly are sure great eatin…
these were caught yesterday and fresh cooked CORRECTLY
here in BfeWhyomin. Today an ex-cowerker brought em to us
at werk tonight from Louisiana.  What a treat!

Snap crunch. Peel. Suck. Crawdads

Before the gulf oil spill there was a place near me that did awesome crawfish boils when in season. Guy was  Louisiana native. Little hole in the wall. Really miss that place.

Most folks around here are put off by them.  I tried to get some squeemish ones
to brave the deep end…but only coaxed one gal to try em…she did pretty good
for her 1st time.  8)

What a shame.
And as far as BP is concerned, what a sham.
They caused a world of hurt in the Gulf beginning with the spill, and are continuing along that path with the chemicals used in the “cleanup”.
They haven’t been held nearly as accountable as they should have been for this disastrous, boneheaded chain of events (especially considering that so much of the damage is irreversible, at least in the short term).

I wish there was a good source for fresh mudbugs here in NJ…pretty much all I’ve ever gotten here were frozen ones.  And lately, even those are coming in from China.

Local fish market gets a few shipments a year of live crawdads.  I love 'em!  One of my fondest memories is the Crawfish Festival in Spring TX.

I’m not eating much in the way of aquatic organisms from the Gulf. Scared to quite frankly. And I love seafood.

Euge, these are FRESH water…they safe fo sure

I have nothing to add except my envy.  I’ve always wanted to try a crayfish boil.  I’ve even considered trying to harvest a few of the little guys that live up here.  Anyone ever tried the Northern version?  I don’t know the difference but I can see that they’re claws are clearly smaller.

Have you mastered the one-handed mudbug peel?  A beer in one hand, popping off heads and pinching tails with the other.  It don’t get much better’n that.

Course bugs always taste much better if you get’em at a place that has liquor in front and poker in the rear.  8)

If dey like the ones here in bfe, you are better off persuing the southern larger variety.
Just not much to em…

Sorry, where’s BFE?
I sort of expect that they can’t be shipped live into Canada (no confirmation of that) and I’m not hearing great things about the frozen ones.

It’s a village in Egypt.

Where I am at it is a village in Whyoming

Thanks.  Wyoming, just west of Egypt (and about 1000 miles west of me).  I agree, the local crayfish are pretty tiny.  But, they make good bass bait.
