Hello everyone. Yet another newbie question/mistake…
I have a batch of “London Pub Ale” fermenting. When I dumped from the kettle into the fermentor I did not strain out the trub. It has been fermenting nicely for 7 days now. Can I strain the beer (or whirlpool or ?) before racking to a carboy to remove the trub?
You’re fine. Many will say no need to secondary, ferment(to completion) approx. 3 wks. in primary then rack quietly(will leave trub behind) to your bottling bucket. If you wish to secondary, check your gravity a couple of times on succeeding days after 2-3 wks, and if the same (and at expected final gravity value), rack quietly to secondary. Good luck and RDWHAHB…
I’m a dumper. The whole boil goes in my fermenters most of the time. It just ends up in the yeast cake anyway. It also adds (slightly) more hop flavor.
As other have said, Nothing to worry about there. Just let the beer sit quietly after fermentation is finished for a couple of days and everything will settle out. Then rack off the sediment.
