Is it too late to do an Octoberfest style beer for the second weekend in October?
If it’s not, any recipe ideas would be great! Thanks in advance!
Derek
I would venture to say it’s not too too late. It would be close. Of course you could also just do a stronger than normal Helles, which is what the Germans do. Here’s what I did this year:
Fermentables
Ingredient Amount % MCU When
German Munich Malt 8lb 0oz 81.5 % 7.7 In Mash/Steeped
German Pilsner Malt 1lb 0oz 10.2 % 0.2 In Mash/Steeped
Belgian Aromatic Malt 4.00 oz 2.5 % 0.8 In Mash/Steeped
German Sauer (Acidulated) Malt 4.00 oz 2.5 % 0.1 In Mash/Steeped
German CaraRed 4.00 oz 2.5 % 0.7 In Mash/Steeped
German Carafa III 1.00 oz 0.6 % 5.7 In Mash/Steeped
Hops
Variety Alpha Amount IBU Form When
Hallertauer Mittlefruh (German) 4.4 % 24 g 12.0 Bagged Pellet Hops 60 Min From End
Tettnanger (German) 4.5 % 21 g 10.8 Bagged Pellet Hops 60 Min From End
Go for it!
Here’s a fine thread on this excellent beer style.
