saw a few things in a garage sale recently that made say hmmm.
has anybody used one of the old big percolator coffee pots for brewing (beer)? i was thinking for heating mash, possibly boiling, etc for small batches.
thought about using the old fashioned electric roasters as well.
or old stainless steel sinks for open ferment?
i may have to experiment and get back to ya

How about a washing machine mash tun? And when you need to lauder, you just hit the spin cycle.

Not quite what you were asking, but I thought this is pretty neat: http://allaboutbeer.com/features/235coffee.html
I really like the washing machine idea, too.
edit: Apparently that no longer exists. Bummer. Here’s something similar but not quite as thorough: http://www.menshealthliving.com/learn/Brew-Your-Own-Beer-in-5-Days.php
CRAP, GOT RID OF OLD WASHER A FEW YEARS AGO, NICE STAINLESS TUB. ACTUALLY THOUGHT OF CUTTING IT LENGTHWISE AND TURNING IT INTO A GRILL, OR THE OTHERWAY AND A FIRE PIT
ALSO WAITING FOR A NEIGHBOR TO TOSS A DISWASHER SO I CAN TURN THE RACKS IN TO A BOTTLE HOLDER. THOUGH I AM GOING TO STOP BOTTLING.

I’ve always thought this, too. I might try it also.
