On the Radio

We’re gonna try out a radio show tomorrow afternoon on the local community radio station in Tampa, WMNF 88.5 fm.  I think you can listen in on the web at wmnf.org or catch it later in a podcast.  Listen to “The Beer Curmudgeons” at 2pm EST and hope that Bob of St. Somewhere, JB of Mr. Dunderbaks and I don’t make fools of ourselves more than we deserve.

I’ll try to catch it! Found the station and my player works!

Thanks, Jeff!  I’ll check it out.

Very cool!

I’ll try to tune in… 8)

Cool Jeff!  I’ll try to catch it as well.

Beer and Lettuce  ;D

Came in from picking hops so I tuned in late.

The OCD is strong in me today…
Please tell the guy talking about Oktoberfest.

  1. King Ludvig that got married when Oktoberfest started was not crazy. That was his grandson Ludvig II, who was king in the late 19th century IIRC. Built Nueschwanstein and the Hofbrauhaus, and may have been drowned as he was bankrupting the country.
  2. He named 5 breweries at the fest. There are 6. Haufbrauhaus, Spaten, Lowenbrau, Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, and Augusteiner.
  3. Did not hear all the talk about the Reinheitsgebot. It was a Bavarian law, and did not become enforced in Germany until Bavaria became part of Germany in 1871 or so. It was a tax law, price law, and ingrediant law. There are so many exceptions today you really need to read the current tax law to see what the current “Reinheitgebot” says.

That was JB.  I guess he’s a German expert by virtue of owning a German restaurant.

Sorry to be a little critical, but I was going “wait, that isn’t correct”.

As to the breweries at Oktoberfest:
Paulaner bought H-P a long while back.
Spaten bought Lowenbau. InBev bought Spaten.
Paulaner is 49% owned by Heineken, the rest by a German holding company.
Haufbrauhaus is owned by the Bavarian state.

So you could say Augustener is the only independent brewery at Oktoberfest.
