Brewed a double IPA at home today… I used a lot of hops.
Here it is:
12#  pilsner
1#  crystal 20
1#  victory
1/2# carapils
1/2# munich
2# cane sugar
Hops:
1 oz Belma, FWH
2 oz Belma 75 min
1 oz each of Amarillo, Summit, and HBC342                  20 min
1 oz each of Amarillo, Summit, Mosaic, and HBC342        10 min
1 oz each of Amarillo, Summit, Mosaic, and HBC342        5 min
1 oz each of Amarillo, Summit, Mosaic, and HBC342        0 min
1 oz Simcoe, 2 oz chinook                                          0 min
2 oz each of Amarillo, Summit, Mosaic, HBC342, and simcoe  dry hop after 2 weeks for 5 days

Your hop schedule is very similar to my last IIPA, both in timing and amounts. Not too many hops by any means !  You’ll have to post how it comes out.  BTW tell me about the experimental variety - what does it seem to be comparable to ?

Um, am I reading this right. 31 oz total hop bill for 5 gal? What does the IBU work out to?

I approve of this hop schedule. I doubt you’ll be disappointed. Did you do a hop stand?

At an ounce per pint I’m guessing it’s got to be at least 20.

Checked my notes - I used 25 oz total for my last IIPA, 10 of which @ dry hop. Basically the same timing additions.  Different hops.  I did not remotely think the hops were over done.  I actually get frustrated with IIPAs that seem to have the same amount of hops as a standard AIPA, but are sweeter, stronger,ie., something I wouldn’t want more than one of.  I make mine dry enough to be drinkable.

“HBC 342 is a high alpha aroma variety selected for its pleasant aroma. It’s aroma can be described as mild, pleasant, citrusy, and tropical, with some melon notes as well. Most are using this hop in Pale Ales and IPAs, but it would go well in stouts and browns also. 11-14% AA.”

This is the description I got online about it. I was given a pound of it by a club member who won 10 pounds of it in a contest, but you can find it on morebeer.com, among other brew supply sites.

Alright, been in the bottle for a week now. Just tasted the first one. WOW! Huge fruity/piney/resiny nose, flavor more of the same. VERY bitter, but well balanced with the alcohol. Decent malt base, could be a little more prominent. I am in love. Too bad it is a little cost prohibitive to brew often… Pliny the who?
