Pimp my DIPA

Planning on brewing a double IPA this weekend, and I just received new hops I want to use. Help me out!

5 gal batch.

Grist:
13.25 lbs 2-row
0.5 lbs crystal 45
0.5 lbs carapils
0.75 lbs dextrose

Planning on 2 oz Magnum at 60 mins

I got a pound each of Idaho Gem, Huell Melon, Lemondrop, and Mandarina Bavaria new this week, but have never brewed with any of them before. I also have plenty of Amarillo, Cashmere, Citra, and Simcoe available.

For yeast, I have S-05, WY1318, WY1968, and Conan cultured from 2 cans of Heady.

Suggestions? Ready, set, go!

I’m currently pouring a very tasty pale that I bittered with Magmun and finished with Citra and Lemondrop. I think those hops paired well and will use again.

I’d say brew some single-hop IPAs with half of the pound, and then you still have half to pair with other hops once you know what to expect. Everyone’s palate is different.

More Beer has a Single Hop Series. You might try something like that.

Basically, the recipe is based off of a simple Pale Ale: 2-Row, Crystal 15L, Magnum bittering hops, and then a single other hop for the rest of the additions. The malt in this recipe is basic and fairly neutral, the bittering clean and consistent, but the flavor and aroma from the late hop additions will vary; sometimes dramatically.

I’ve never used Lemondrop so I thought this would be a good way to check it out.  I like Cascade but want to use it in one of these as well.

I like the combination of Amarillo and Simcoe.
