Hi Everyone - my recent hop blends for APA have been Amirillo, Simcoe, Mosaic or Amarillo, Simcoe, Cascade. I’ve been loving it but wanted to take the brew in more of a piney direction. The only other piney hop I can think of is Chinook so I was thinking about going Simcoe, Chinook, Mosaic, possibly heavy on the simcoe.
Anyone have any thoughts on other hops that will give a good pine character?
Yeah, those YVH hops look really interesting - super high on oils, so they’d be plenty resiny. Thought about listing the experimetal pine, but I’m waiting to use it. Sounds like it has some other character aside from that. That might almost be a single hop beer unless you really ratcheted up the other hops.
FWIW, I use an oz of Columbus in several IPA dry hop blends. Even if you use citrusy or fruity hops for the rest of the blend, that oz of Columbus usually comes through nicely - depends on the hops used and what you’re looking for, of course. Columbus is pretty intense as a dry hop.
That hop (EXP Pine) looks like it has a lot going on aroma wise and with that high oil content, it will be pretty powerful. I say use it solo - that’s my plan when I get mine.
EDIT - I prefer to blend hops normally, but that looks like one that could be interesting and easier to assess solo for the first time.
