Now marijuana and beer will soon become a legal combination, at least for home brewers in Colorado and Washington. With the passage of Amendment 64 in Colorado and Washington Initiative 502 last week–which legalizes adult marijuana possession, cultivation and sales in the two states–home brewers may be able to legally add marijuana to their recipes.
I’ve tried a couple ‘medical’ soda products here in CA and they were not so much. and man, you think hops are expensive? even with the new laws I suspect prices will stay more or less the same so 1.50/oz v. 300/oz? I’m not experimenting anytime soon and technically it’s been a ‘legal combination’ for me for years now.
Given that many of the active compounds in MJ need to be dehydrated to have a psycoactive effect I suspect that putting it in beer would be a non-starter. but I could be wrong.
I’ve been talking about this for a long time with my brother in-law and the only thing holding it up is money. I would like to hear if it is even worthwhile before I invest in my own experiments.
This just cracks me up. You have brewers out there that illegally smoke pot that would never consider putting it in their beer and will now consider it because it may be legal???
Some have reported that the water from making “bubble-hash” is good for brewing. But as thc is fat soluble I have to wonder. That being said- alcohol is a great solvent and one can always add it to their beer.
Hypothetically, were it to be legal, a grain alcohol hash tincture would be an excellent addition to one’s liquor cabinet. Especially if one had chronic back pain.
indeed, anybody chooseing to use this plant for medical or recreational purposes would do well to do something other than smoking. While study after study seems to confirm that the risks associated with tobacco are lessened or even absent with MJ it’ll still tear up your lungs and if you already have a lung related issue or are an athlete etc.
I know somebody who made a tincture by soaking some herbs in everclear for a month or so, then adding the strained liquid at bottling time. They reported that the effect was noticeable even in one bottle, but not to a large degree. I wonder if it was just the added alcohol boost from the everclear?
Seems kind of silly if you ask me, but whatever floats your boat!
Enter the vaporizer. I have made several batches using Rosemary (dry hopped about 20g.) but that’s for flavor and aroma. Personally I like to keep the two (alcohol and cannabis) separate, and by the time you start to feel the effects of the THC in your beer, you’ve already ingested far too much to be enjoyable.
FWIW, PBW does an excellent job cleaning glassware. Just sayin’.
