Cracked open the first Pumpkin Ale just in time for Thanksgiving. It is outstanding. Not because I brewed it but it is the best that I have had all season. Was very disappointed with all the commercial brands I’ve tried. Happy to post the recipe should anyone want to see it.
It’s not too spicy but just enough. .5 lbs of carapills and 1 lb of flaked oat added a nice body which I think a Pumpkin ale should have. Recipe coming at you on the next post.
While I do not care for Pumpkin beers I think you made the right choice to have it for Thanksgiving rather than Halloween … or worse August when the commercial ones all come out. Cheers! Glad it turned out great!
I used to brew a pumpkin beer every year back in the day and just got tired of all the spice. To each his own, though. Doesn’t mean someone else can’t brew an excellent one.
After tweaking my pumpkin beer the last few years I took a total flyer and brewed a pumpkin dubbel yesterday. No spices, but 1 lb pumpkin per gallon. The 2 hr lauter was just my special reward…
The last time I brewed one (about 3 years ago), I brought most of it to Thanksgiving and shared it with the family. Everyone enjoyed it, even my 87 year old Grandmother who doesn’t drink beer. Funny how good homebrew can turn on even the non beer drinkers.
