Pumpkin Beer Dooms Brewery

:o

It looks like making more pumpkin beer was just one of many mistakes this business made.
IMHO, the world does not need more pumpkin beer!

I’ve only had their beer a couple of times way back, because nothing about it made an impression that made me want to try more.  Now there’s a problem for any brewery with so many others vying for consumers’ attention.  When all they really seemed to hitch their wagon to was pumpkin, that sealed the deal as far as my likelihood of trying them again.  I knew they weren’t interested in my demographic.

Ballast Point hitched their wagon to Sculpin/grapefruit Sculpin, and they’re closing a few locations. Widmer was Hefe.

Sierra Nevada and Fat Tire seem to have maintained though. They made other opportunities for themselves though. Makes me think of my company-the mood right now is very focused on short term profits, and investing in what’s making money now. That’s great short term, but this is what that gets you.

Saw an article recently along the lines of “Constellation Brands has buyer’s remorse over Ballast Point.”  They seem to want to concentrate on companies that can be refocused  on new product categories and that thay can shape the image of as they wish.

I’ve usually liked Weyerbacher’s barrel aged stuff.  Have a few bottles of Sunday Morning Stout in the cabinet in the cellar.

I tried to like them but never found any of their stuff remarkable.

Haven’t tried them in years - maybe 15 or 16 and my impression was overly sweet and cloying.
