Why do I see some people/websites celebrating today as the day prohibition was repealed? The Cullen-Harrison Act did become effective on April 7th, but it was signed by FDR on March 22nd and fully ratified on December 5th.
So which date is the correct one to celebrate on? March 22nd, April 7th or December 5th? I would say/think December 5th but, apparently, others think differently.
hell, why not celebrate on all of them … any excuse for a party. but, as you say, Dec 5th is the official date. when the time comes, raise your glass to Pete Bellacy. Pete has now passed away, but he was a member of Hogtown Brewers (and had been a member of AABG and a couple of other clubs in his long experience as a homebrewer). He was born on the day Prohibition was repealed. Here’s to Pete!
Well, yeah. I’ll take any excuse to celebrate a day in beer history - I just think too many are making too big a deal of it today, when it should really be Dec. 5th.
