If you were on HBD way back when, you read frequent posts by Jethro Gump, which was the handle of Rob Moline. He was or had been a brewery, and his Barleywine was a big brew recipe in the late 90s IIRC.
He passed away recently from Parkinson’s.He was 63.
Sad news, indeed. Rob was the first member of the AHA Board of Advisers (now Governing Committee) elected to the Board by the AHA membership. That was in 1999, the year before I started working for the AHA. Rob was one of the most passionate advocates for homebrewing I’ve ever known. I recall his signature on his HBD posts was something like: “The more I know about beer, the more I know I need to know more about beer.”
I met Rob many years ago in Tallahassee. Rob was a member of my old club, North Florida Brewers League, years before I joined. He had dropped into Tally to visit and he made a point to visit a club meeting.
I knew him from HBD and he had sage advice. I’m sad he didn’t have as long on earth as he deserved.
Rob and I talked several times when he was at Court Avenue and no matter where the conversation wandered I always came away having learned something. Prayers for his family.
