Roomate w/Stomach Flu - Batch Contaminated?

Hi everyone,

Question: My roommate woke up with the stomach flu this morning, but helped me bottle last night before we knew they were going to be sick.  Would this mean my batch is now contaminated and needs to be thrown out?  I cleaned and used star san as I normally would, but worried the batch could have the illness in it!

You should be just fine. I’ve never heard of beer getting the flu. Without being sick, your mouth has more than enough germs to contaminate a beer if you are very careless.

Beer does not get viruses.

haha thanks - I figured the beer wouldn’t catch flu and get sick  :o just not sure if it’s contaminated and not safe to drink.

I would think any germs that may have come in contact with the beer would be killed by the alcohol. I wouldn’t worry about it.

If it IS contaminated, it isn’t because your room mate is sick.  That just can’t happen.
