Sierra Nevada Flipside

This Red IPA is amazing. I have never had it until this year. I’ve actually never seen it before, so I’m not sure if it’s new or if it’s just now making it to Ohio. To me, a red IPA is a wonderful transitional season beer. This one is at the top of the list and might be my favorite SN brew. It hopped with whole-cone Citra, Simcoe, and Centennial hops. I recommend it to all!

it’s pretty good stuff. didn’t blow me away but it is very drinkable. It’s the new seasonal this year so you didn’t miss it for too long

I just had one the other day and enjoyed it as well, picking up some more tomorrow:)

So I’m guessing it replaced Tumbler? I didn’t see it this year… The old lady isn’t going to be happy about that one lol

Like the Flipside.  Celebration is still my SN favorite, but I’d definitely buy it again. Pretty solid.

The local grocery store has it on sale for $12.99/twelve pack.  I picked up four and a couple of pounds of ahi poke.  It is pau hana aloha Friday after all!  ;D

Man, I gotta say I envy your backdrop. I spent the first year and a half of my life in Honolulu while my Dad was in the Air Force, and of course have no memory of it. Cruel irony !!  I’m definitely going back some day.

I have a 12 pack of each in the garage fridge… well just shy of a 12 pack of each lol… Both of these beers are pretty solid. I once would have agreed with you about the Celebration, but this might have surpassed it… At this point anyways. I would be happy with either if I only had one of them in the fridge!  8)

Yeah, yeah, - sure, sure.  Round these parts they’ll give anybody a birth certificate,  whether you were born here or not.

I was born an AF brat too.  Edwards AFB, me.

Oh Lord, don’t encourage him.

Thought it was a decent IPA, bought one sixer and would happily drink another. But think I like the rye better. I also saw Tumbler on shelves so apparently two fall seasonals.

This is the last year for Tumbler. It had fans, but not enough of them.

It’s not bad, but I found Flipside pretty boring.  Nothing stands out about it.  It’s just another beer.  I feel pretty much the same way about Torpedo.  OTOH, I picked up my first Celebration of the season yesterday and it’s freaking fantastic!

Torpedo doesn’t stand out at all? I think it’s a bit thick for an IPA.

But now that I have typed it I realize you are a beer judge. SO, does thickness take points away from an IPA in competition?

Nope, not necessarily.  For me, it’s not the body I don’t care for, it’s a lack of flavor, like Flipside.

Definitely agree Celebration is their best offering every year. I’m not a big fan of torpedo, either. Flip side was a nice sunday afternoon beer to watch football with. Obviously many other better IPA offerings out there, but for a nationally distributed product I thought it was pretty good. I’d drink it again.

I’m not a big fan of Torpedo. I liked the Flipside because of malt/hop balance. I just recently had some Celebration which is my favorite from SN, but I noticed very little aroma. The flavor was great as usual, but I just didn’t get much aroma. Maybe it was just that 6 pack or my nose wasn’t working quite right :-\
