Smoked Beers?

Does anyone know why it was decided to lump barrel aged beers in with Smoked Beers and not in another category all together?

To me, wood aged beers just dont belong in the Smoked Beer Category.
Maybe all beer aged on the wood should have a separate category or possibly put them in the Specialty category?

Thats like IPA’s… there are two catagories, English and American… but I think there is one that fits in the middle too, an American English IPA.  8)
