Good beer, just not great. Has a nice balance of maltiness and bitterness, but seems to be missing something in the hop flavor and aroma department. It has the Chinook flavor coming through and a little bit of citrus, but it’s just not quite there for me. Very drinkable though, but I think the Celebration Ale is better.
I want to try this beer in all of it’s West Coast glory. ;D
In the IPA Superbowl of Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference, I don’t think Torpedo would even be in the playoffs, Bluesman - they have a talented team, but just can’t represent.

I’m with bluesman and think it’s pure hop glory fresh from the source. It’d make the playoffs in my fantasy beer league!

Alpine
Ballast Point
That’s the playoff 6…again Torpedo has a 9-7 record, but not enough to get the playoff bid.
And BTW - I think bluesman is more poking at WC than being serious since he and I had that debate (WC is sooo much better than East). Tupac over Biggie, etc…

I like Stone IPA just as much as I like DFH 60. I am an IPA kinda guy. Lots of hops and the fresher the better.
I am also a fan of more balance than the standard in my IPA’s, more mouthfeel, some crystal malt. I think the yeast is a big player as well. But the hops are the showcase hands down.
Torpedo was drinking really good at the first part of September, at the brewery.
The Racer 5 at Rear Republic was watery - but I had started out with a Racer X! ;D
Where are you coming up with Chinook flavor? According to the SN website, there is no Chinook.
I was surprised to see SN was using Magnum for dry hopping. I’d never considered using Magnum in that application myself.
I’ve tried dry hopping with Magnum and was less than impressed with my results. Just didn’t seem to be much there in the way of aroma.
SN Torpedo Extra IPA uses CITRA hops, among others.
I personally love it compared to SN Celebration Ale which I perceive to be spicier.
When it first came out–Torpedo was the bomb! The hops were so fresh-tasting.
Yet, like all the SN beers–there seems to be some variability throughout the seasons.
One wonders if the recipe has been changed compared to the original release version.
I like SN beers typically but I do Not like Torpedo… its “okay” I guess but it just isn’t in the same class as the rest of their beers. jmo…
That’s funny, I feel the exact opposite! I like SN and will drink it if it’s there, but I had Torpedo for the first time last week and loved it. I used to drink a lot of porters and stouts and wasn’t really impressed with both those offerings from SN.
Torpedo is great right after you have had the chance to stick your noggin in a Torpedo Vessel, then eat lunch at the SN pub with that wonderful almond wood brick oven smell in the background. There is nothing greater than than a Total SN Beer Camp Experience! As a hop head myself, Torpedo rocks!
I’m not so great on IPAs; the hop flavor and aroma is there for me, but I want a malty flavor too and that seems lacking.
Dogfish Head 60 Minute is a go-to IPA for me.

I’ve been walking past it and the Glissade for the past several weeks. Caved in and bought it again. Can’t say it’s spectacular but it is fairly good. Sweet and hoppy and sorta dextrinous. Good carbonation and mouth-feel. And I have to say- like a lot of SN’s beers it’s drinkable. One after another until the sixpack’s gone.

Torpedo is in the starting lineup on my team. It is very fresh here in Hawaii. I like to alternate between Torpedo and Guinness Foreign Extra. They accentuate each other’s best qualities.
I’ll take the GFE over the Torpedo any day but they both be excellent.
