Something is amiss at AHA headquarters

I received a message from Carol Hiller stating that I volunteered to work at NHC.  I do recall volunteering to judge the final round at NHC.  However, I do not recall volunteering for anything else at NHC.  Maybe, I am just having a senior moment?  Has anyone else received a message from Carol Hiller?

I got that email as well.  I don’t recall volunteering but I will if help is needed.

Same here -

Mark, she must be from the local committee, not a name I recognize from AHA or BA.

I do know that I had to change the steward box from yes to no when I signed up.

Same.

I thought that I was being phished until I queried Carol’s name and e-mail address.  I signed back into the competition registration page and verified that I did not check any boxes that I did not intend to check.  The competition registration page allows one to sign up to judge or steward, but not both.

With that said, Carol’s message was directed at people who volunteered to work at seminars.  I do not recall signing up to volunteer to work at the seminars, which is why I was surprised to receive the e-mail message.

Mark, I heard you are the keynote speaker and your topic is You Can’t Make Beer Without a Stir Plate.

Received one as well.  I don’t recall checking a box when registering for the conference (this has nothing to do with the competition) either.

Hi all,

Sorry for the confusion.  I have heard from Carol Hiller about the e-mail.  The list of volunteers she was given for the message did not distinguish NHC judge/steward volunteers from seminar beer sample pourer volunteers for the seminars, so everyone who volunteered in some capacity got that message.  If you volunteered as a judge or steward for the competition, you can ignore the message from Carol Hiller.  Thanks.

Cheers,
Janis

Well, that makes much more sense.  I did sign up to judge.

It’s actually “You Can’t Make Beer Without A Stir Plate Built With Gold-Plated Neodymium Magnets.”

That seminar will be follwed by “You Can’t Make Beer Without A Temperature-Controlled Fermentation Chamber With 0.1E-7 Degree Celsius Resolution AND 0.1E-14 Accuracy.”

I knew my beers were off a little - and to think it was just because I used an old computer fan and plain old rare earth magnets in my stir plate!

I thought I was being phished also. In the email she identifies herself as a BA employee, but it’s not a BA email address. That’s a big red flag in my book.

It’s time to upgrade to gold-plated rare earth magnets.  They reduce the amount of shear stress that the cells experience during incubation.  ;D
