Sad news that Ted is winding down his business. His hops were by far the freshest and highest quality available to the homebrewer. He is selling off old stock until it’s gone, so obviously there is nothing from the 2024 crop available through him. Where are people purchasing their hops? Are you happy with the quality? I’m specifically interested in those of whom use mail-order, as there is no LHBS near me.
I’m so bummed about Ted. I only ordered from him for a long time, and no other hops compared. I’ve orderd from Yakima Chiefs and their quality was quite good as well.
Another thing related to this topic, I no longer ordered no US grown hops, I’ve been burned too many times by sub par quality imported hops, and we have equally great hops of all types grown domestically.
I’ve had good luck with Yakima Chief, Yakima Valley, and BSG … ordered from various vendors.
I try to order hops directly from Yakima Chief when I can, but availability isnt always there for the varieties I’m looking for. Yakima Valley Hops has great packaging, quality, and selection so they’re my other top choice. They also carry many advanced hop products in homebrew size packages if that’s something that interests you.
Other options for wide selection and/or bulk purchases are Farmhouse Brewing Supply and Hopsdirect. I’ve used both several times and would recommend them as well.
I havent ordered from Hops Direct in years after getting a few pounds of hops that were clearly oxidized and in poor condition
I like Yakima Chief hops and have had good luck with More Beers hops too.
I like Yakima Valley Hops. Always fresh. The harvest year is clearly marked. They have wide selection and homebrew sizes. I mostly buy 2 oz packages because I am small batch brewer and 2 oz goes a long way.
Bummer. I haven’t ordered from them in quite some time myself, but that would scare me off, too.
