Star San turned my bung brown...

So for the first time ever I was soaking my rubber stopper and starsan and within a couple of minutes it begin to turn Brown. Never had this before. It only seem to do it with a drilled bungs that I get for my Brew jacket. Anyone have any clues as to what might cause this?

I try not to discuss my bung on the Internet. [emoji851]

…but I’ve never heard of this discoloration.

You can bleach your bung

Wouldn’t that burn Jim?

I hope not… Cause im seriously considering it at this time…

Dunno, never bothered trying.

That’s very LA of you.

To OP - did you have any metals in the solution too?

Now that you mention it, I did have the lid to my SS brew bucket in the same tub.

Stainless wouldn’t be an issue. I was thinking aluminum, copper or brass.

what is wrong with a brown bung? who cares what color it is as long as it functions correctly.

^^^^^

Still nice to know what caused it considering Star San is clear

As long as it’s clean…
