Storage of Steeped grains

I won a Pilsner kit (which does not require a boil), was planning on brewing (really mixing) it this past weekend.  I wanted to add a bit more flavor so I steeped some crystal 80 earlier in the week, brought it to a boil, placed in a sanitized mason jar, cooled and placed in fridge.  Plan was to reintroduce it during my mixing day.  Things happened and I was not able to move forward.

Wondering if anyone knows what the self life (in fridge) would be for this stored colored/flavored liquid…

Thanks…

better to just go buy more crystal.  Not worth the effort to mess up a batch of beer.  I mean maybe $2 in crystal malt?

Could you not freeze it?

The shelf life probably wouldn’t be long.  Assuming you steeped it under 160F you were below pasteurization temps to kill off bacteria. Even if it were boiled the shelf life depends on your sanitation and handling of everything that came in to contact with the wort post-boil.  I’d guess a week or so.  As a side note, I wouldn’t put any crystal in a pilsner anyway.  maybe some flaked corn or something but that may lighten the flavor.  I would consider doing a mini-mash with some pale or pils malt though- just to freshen-up the flavor.

A week at best. It’s a container full of bacteria food in a larger container of bacteria with swirling airflow. You will know when it’s gone bad.

Better option would definitely be to freeze it if you really want to use it.
