I have been thinking about purchasing a Stout Tanks and Kettles 9.2 gallon brew kettle with thermowell and tangential inlet. I like this kettle because the diameter is small enough to boil 3.5 gallon batches with a decent height fluid column while being large enough to boil the occasional 5.5-gallon batch. I currently use different kettles for different size batches, and I need to free up some storage space. Does anyone have experience with this manufacturer?
I have their hop back. It’s very well made, sanitary welds are extremely well done and made of substantial steel. It’s the 1.5 gallon size, but I could easily stand on it… And I am pretty big. Been looking at their 20 gallon kettle.
I have one of their 14.5 gallon conicals. It’s really nice with really nice welds on it. I’ve had it going on 2 years with 0 issues… Even dropped it once full of wort…
Why are you leaning towards the tangential inlet? To me it seems like overkill for your usual small batches. I see the benefit on larger batches were it is tough to get a whirlpool going.
I do have to say, I like that they offer options.
Edit - Damn it Mark! Now I want new kettles.
I have a March pump sitting around collecting dust, and I want to whirlpool chill without using a Jamil-O-Chill. If I am thinking about getting a new kettle, I might as well get one with a tangential inlet. This kettle would be a huge change for me. I more than likely would switch to using pellets. I have currently have more whole hops than I use in a year.
Bluesman bought a whole bunch from them as a pilot system. Hasn’t used it yet, but it looks nice.
