I hear a loud violent hissing sound from my garage yesterday. This lasted for about 1 minute. When the hissing sound stopped I looked in the garage and saw that my backup tank that is stored outside of my kegerator was covered in ice and had suddenly and loudly discharged all of the Co2. What failed? When I look at the tank I don’t see anything that looks defective.
Should I bring the tank to the place that refills it for me? Would they be able to ensure me that it won’t suddenly discharge again?
If I had be close to the tank I think I could of been injured.
CO2 is gas over liquid in the tank below about 88-89F. Above that it turns to gas. Was the garage hot? If so you hit the pressure relief, and it vented
There is a small plate in the valve that will need to be replaced. Your gas supplier should be able to take car of it. Shouldn’t cost more than a few bucks.
Thanks. I’ll bring it and get the pressure relief replaced or repaired. It was only 76 degrees in the garage. It might have spiked higher I guess.
