Just published the first issue of The Hop Chronicles! For this one, we used a relatively new variety provided that was referred to as Experimental Pine Fruit and recently had a new name applied to it: Eureka. Check it out!
I used ½# of this in a Brown Ale with Conan. I wasn’t a huge fan but it was probably the malt clashing (Vienna, Munich, Caramunich). A few friends did enjoy it tho.
How would someone sensitive to Cat Pee aroma (like my wife) react to this one? Had Short’s Sticky Icky Icky over the weekend, I thought it was “hoppy”, she made a bad face.
If the “Simcoe on steroids” comment is any indication, I’d vote to use Galaxy with it. The tropical/passionfruit would be a nice balance.
Edit - FWIW with a hop that strong, EKG and mittelfruh would get totally lost. Citra would work too, but I personally like the combo of Simcoe and Galaxy and I think it’d work better.
Nice, I was leaning towards either galaxy or citra
I’m gonna use a 35ibu 60 min magnum bittering charge and then use 1oz each of eureka and Galaxy at 5min and then 2oz each at flameout for a 30min whirlpool
Grain bill will be 60%2row and 40%munich (kickitatjim’s APA recipe)
Just tapped this beer this morning to chill before the super bowl tonight, I am also dry hopping in the keg with 1oz each eureka and Galaxy…I had to have a taste and I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a better Hoppy pale ale in my life, serious
I get citrus (lemon, grapefruit), melon, light floral and light pine. It has kind of a sharp bitterness; I think it might pair well with something something earthy. The beer also tastes a bit minerally to me.
