My retired parents are taking a trip to Europe this summer. First stop is england. Looking for suggestions for beers to have them bring back. Thanks
IME, there aren’t a huge number of choices for bottled beers in England. Most breweries emphasize cask ale delivered fresh to the pubs. Most of what they can find in a store will be what gets imported here, like Fullers, or cheap lagers.
That said, I would love to get my hands on some of this again, and it is bottled.
It’s a brown ale of sorts, with loads of interesting flavor. I had a pint of this in a country pub in the Lake District and still get misty eyed thinking about it.
Yeah, the best part about London was the cask ales on hand pump. Plus the ambiance of drinking in a 400-year-old pub. I don’t think you can really bottle that.
I talked to a British expat in München, and he said the beer he’d buy there tastes different after the 10-hour car trip to England. I’m not sure what the deal is, but it must be something about the beer not traveling well.
I lived there for a few years and I just got back from another trip. There are some quite good beers you can get in the stores and completely avoid Fullers or Sam Smith.
Duechar’s IPA or anything else from Caledonian Brewery
Greene King IPA ( standard or gold ).
Caffrey’s Irish Cream Ale ( it’s a red ale with Nitro in the can )
Victory Strong Ale

Really? Green King? If I were in Suffolk I’d buy Adnams.
Sure. But, I don’t know if he’ll be in Suffolk and Greene King is widely available. But, I like GK IPA.
