I used these for the first time last night on an English mild, and I sure they will work great. However, the package didn’t explain anything beyond the number to use for a desired carbonation level. (I used 3 per 12 oz bottle to get mild carbonation) Is there a general rule of thumb when using these? I didn’t know whether it would be better to crush them first, shake the bottles a bit, or just leave them to break down naturally. I’m interested to hear other people’s opinions on this topic, and if it helps I have about 12 days for the to bottle condtion before an upcoming competition.
I just tried these. threw 3 tabs in each bottle capped and let go for a week. THey didnt carbonate the beer at all when you poured the beer they floated out on top.
So I can tell you that method doesnt work lol.
I haven’t tried those specifically but I have tried a couple other versions. Disappointing at best.
I tried those once too. I used 4 tabs per bottle and after 3 weeks there was almost no carbonation, if any. After 3 more weeks carbonation was good though, but corn sugar is way better IMO.
I’ve used a variety of types of this product and must agree with Denny.
The ones I’ve used recently I think are Brewer’s Best, but they’re more like lozenges than tablets.
One per 12 oz, two for 22 oz.
I’m not pleased with them as they WAY overcarbonate the beer at the recommended dosage.
I think that the inconsistent performance outweighs the convenience.
I have used these when bottling a few for competitions, usually 4 per bottle and do it 6 weeks out. Works for me.
Looks like I might be in trouble for this competition. :o At least I’m doing an English mild, so low carbonation is expected. Would shaking the bottles a couple times a days help the yeast break them down faster?
That worked for me.
Thanks Denny.
