Very pale ale for a friend.

My friend wants to make 5 gals for his brothers 21st bday. The brother drinks Busch.

So I need something that we can pull together in a month.
Thinking of:
90% pils
10% Munich
1 oz of Hallertau.
WLP001

That’s it. Any comments?  Thought about simple sugar to cut the body down or minute rice. Replace up to 20 percent of the Pils?  Leave out the Munich?  Category would be American Light Lager. Slowly working him towards CAP but not there yet. What about rice syrup?  Don’t see many folks asking about it.
Thanks

I’d mash low for sure, maybe 149F for 90 mins- the viscosity of horse pee,er…Busch is pretty low. Sounds good to me. The rice syrup might make sense for his palate, but I’ve never been able to bring myself to. If you’re working toward CAP, you could drop the Munich and use a couple lbs of flaked maize.

I thought about flaked maize, or as we call it, corn.
For this one I’d go corn syrup because we want thin before I did a cereal mash or bought flaked corn, just easier to get at the local store.
Thanks

I’d sub Vienna for the Munich

Why?

I make a ‘Yellow Fizzy’ that’s
8lb Two Row
.5lb Carapils
7g high alpha bittering hop…bitter to about 20 IBU
28g Cascade at knockout.
Clean fermenting ale yeast…001, US-05, BRY-97
OG: 1.044ish
FG: 1.009ish
It looks like Coors Light, but it’s way better.  It’s best about four weeks after brewday.

I like the lighter biscuity flavor of Vienna in light colored lagers better than Munich. I use Munich in my pale and darker beers. I’m sure it would be just fine though.

For a Busch drinker, 1 oz. of Hallertau may be way too hoppy for their tastes. I tried to make my Busch drinking family some lighter beer styles and the one they like the best has no hops at all and is over 50% sugar. Dry and tasteless.

Busch drinkers can try my cream ale and if that’s too malt and hop forward for their “tastes”, then they can crack open another 30pack.  Life’s too short to try to duplicate that BS !

I think every brewer should try to make a light lager. Its a good way to hone your skills. But I don’t know about slaving away for months trying to clone something you can buy for 50 cents a can

I agree- light lagers are a good test of skill. Pils, Helles , Dort, CAP. Pale hybrids too. Just no 30 pack clones.  8)

I might have to make a 1.030 lager with .3 ounces of magnum and call it 30 Bomb lol

Better stock up on rice.  .3 oz Magnum might be too much !

I could go with a pound of flaked barley and 30 points of table sugar, then repitch that .3 ounces of magnum from a previous boil. That ought to keep it from being too IPA ish. Call it Blue Mountain Spacial?

Nice !  I like it. Don’t let BMC see that recipe - they could seize it as imminent domain or some s@#$.

You should brew a kolsch. There is no better option!

+1 kolsch. If they don’t like it, tough.
