Opened up my first gusher tonight. It was amazing! I never saw a bottle empty itself! It was almost the work of cleaning it up. almost… ;D
You know, sometimes it is rather amusing opening a gusher. You pop the cap then it begins foaming all over the place. As you say “oh s**t” and run for the sink with a glass in hand to hopefully catch some of the cherished elixir. Enjoy.
I was judging NHC final round once and someone at the next table opened a gusher. Hit the ceiling and 3 surrounding tables.
Similar experience here, but the steward who was opening the bottle decided to put his thumb over the top to stop the flow and effectively sprayed everybody at the table with porter.
Now I kind of want to send some gushers in to comps, just to mess with people.
Dude, you should have kept quiet! Now we’ll know who to kill… ;D
I have only experienced one gusher while judging, so far. Fortunately, it wasn’t very violent. I’m sure there will be others in my future. ;D
Now THIS is a gusher
I was in Quito Ecuador when the first cans of Guinness with widget arrived…(Hint, the elevation of Quito is about 10.000 feet).
Notice that these well trained professionals were quick to react and saved as much as they could… ;D
Was that Tom Moench in the hat sitting at the end of the table?
Now this is a gusher
The judge is John Isenhour and I believe it was a kriek at a 1995 comp. I once saw a color photo of it which was amazing.
The color photo you saw was probably the Last Drop in an issue of Zymurgy. This picture was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the subject of this thread. Thanks for posting the picture!
While not 41 years old, my bottle of 8 was a gusher. You bet I slurped it off the counter!
The level headed guy who grabbed the camera is what caught my attention first. I have that camera (or one very similar) so I know what I’d be worried about. Someone else will save the beer.
