New Britain reminds me of Little Britain in Arrested Development, and is too close to New Belgium

Those are high hopes, indeed. The name is tricky but, oh boy, its no where close to the biggest obstacle. It is super important.

Pretty sure Vanguard was a drum & bugle corps first. But either way, I get your point.
Black River Brewery sounds good. Good luck going pro, it’s the dream of many a homebrewer.
Took the survey but have to say Black River has the best ring to it. Not sure where you are located so it is hard to judge if New Britain would be appropriate, could be if you are going with a geographic identity.
Regardless, I wish you great success. Like many if us, this is a dream of mine as well. My hats off to you for going for it!

Only concern with Black River would be name conflicts. There was a Black River Brewing in VT, but it appears closed.
If this does become a problem maybe Dark River or Black Water would be good substitutes.
Brown River is also not an option, as it would infringe on the name of my brewery:

As a certified wastewater treatment plant operator (aka a turd herder) I can tell for certain it is a creek not a lake… :o
My advise would be check the US trademark database before you go further.
Trust on this.
Pick the name that does not conflict with anybody else.
It is pain to change your name later on.
Really good point, too many breweries get sued over really loose connections.
When I started my business my accountant had me check the state business registration database, but not the national one. I believe that, depending on the scope of the business, you may be alright as long as you’re unique in your state. IANAL.
