What is your Bench?

Ok time to show what you can do beside 16oz lets see you benching and all those plates. Crushing your self is not allowed!

I can do 225 at least. Picture to follow.

I work out with weights regularly, I don’t know my max right now but it is probably around 265, maybe a little more depending on the spot. I used to be able to max over 300 but I doubt I could get that now. I work out with 185-245 (increasing the weight during sets with a warm up of 135). BTW: I weight about 175 and am about 5’7". Not a big guy.

Hmmm…Not sure how much the transmissions actually weigh.

Haven’t benched anything in a couple years now. back when I was doing it regularly I was in the 200 range. Now I still can standing press my ~30 lb son up in the air about 5 times before I think I might drop him. My shoulder has been bothering me for the last couple months and everytime I toss him up in the air I think ‘hmm, I wonder why my shoulder hurts?’.

Gotta get back to the gym but it’s just not in the cards now. up at 5:45, get ready and drive to work for 7:30, home by 17:00, make dinner, put the kid to bed, clean up, waste a little time on the forum, maybe do some yoga, drink a beer, hit the hay around 23:30.

In 2005 I did 300 pounds in the 148 pound division.

I was 49 at the time. Now I just use light weights to keep my muscle toned. I suppose now I could probably do 200 to 220. I currently weigh 142.

Truthfully, in my opinion the true tests of strength are the Squat

I hit 400 in this picture.

And the Deadlift

My best was a triple bodyweight 445.

The photos in my post were taken at the WPA World Championships at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville TN. It was May 5-7 I think of 2005.

Awesome! I agree with your thoughts on squats. I doubt I could hit 315 on squat anymore but I used to. I keep the weight pretty low on that now, rarely going over 225. But I run 3-5 times a week (less mileage in the summer) and the combination of running and squats is just too much. I only do squats once a week now.

When I lay on my back, I tend to fall asleep.

You better have yer ass out there runnin’!

A full keg is ~180 lb, but I guess that’s more of a deadlift.

+1 I figure if I ever get hit by a bus, I’ll be to unconscious to lift it off me anyways.

Major, I always thought you were tall, like me. I’ll be damned. Funny how you get images of people you never met in your head, then are shocked to learn they are all wrong. Are you sure you’re not over six foot?

He’s definitely not!

I am 5’6. And I do know how running does not mix with squats. Both take a toll on the lower back. I bicycled for cardio.

But my ego is 7’ 8".

I agree about squats, but maybe clean and jerks are a true test. Last squat in college was 720 (unofficial). 20 plus years ago. My knees let me know about that daily. Nothing like having a bar bend on your back, loved that feeling.

I’m definitely not in your league.  I doubt I could do twice my body weight now, though maybe. But I wouldn’t even dare try. I work out with squats only about once a week right now and don’t go over 185. Just no need for it. Weight lifting can be very good for you, especially as you get older, but I don’t push super heavy weights any more. NOt that I could ever do 720.

I have not done squats in 10 years. I should do them so I can walk the scarecrow walk for a week maybe two!

Don’t know about squats but I’m pressing all the weights there are on my weight set. That’s about 150lb. I need to go buy some more weight. In high school I was over 200 on the bench press. Got a bunch of free time might as well brush the dust of the bench and get my money’s worth.

A few friends of mine from the newspaper I used to work at had a push up contest a few years back with some money on the line and I won with 115 push ups. I was pretty proud of that. Had a month to train for it. I could easily do 35 now, maybe 50.

I used to be able to do 30 chin ups only a few years ago. Now I can get at least 15 Maybe 20 on a good day after a strong cup of coffee.

I’ll buy that.
