What's Brewing This Weekend - 4/15 edition

Thanks to a DC Holiday (Emancipation Day), Friday’s not Tax Day, but what are you brewing before the tax check is due?

Something bitter? Something sweet?

Drop it here.

I’ll be brewing my 1st batch on my new 1/2 bbl system!!! 10 gal of Big Wheel Brown Ale.  The name is an ode to my big brother Brian who I lost almost 2 weeks ago.  We always used to ride “Big Wheels” in the driveway as kids and He was the one that suggested we start brewing our own beer.  He loved good beer.  He quit brewing with me along time ago and moved away.  It’s gonna be kinda bittersweet, but I know he’ll be there with me on Sat. to help me brew once more.  Love you Bro!!

Nothing this weekend.  I think I’ll tap the BoPils that’s been lagering for a month to see how it’s doing and clean some kegs.  Other than that not much brewing work to do, other than quality assurance testing  ;)

Ah yes, and I almost forgot but I’ll probably be making some fresh sausage.

No brewing for me this weekend, though I may break out the smoker!  Chicken, ribs, a roast or two.

My Chamomile Ale has been in the fermenters since Saturday the 9th, so there they need to sit for another 1 1/2 to 2 weeks.

My strawberry cider (5Gals) has been sitting on 10lbs of strawberries since Saturday.  I may rack it off the berries this weekend or perhaps let it go another week first.  Still trying to decide.

Didn’t get around to it last weekend so should be trying the Gumball’ish wheat thingy.  Still need to decide on the exact recipe, though.

No brewing this weekend, but this is the last weekend I have to work for awhile.

I have a 4 day weekend next weekend, so there will be brewing going on!

This is my preferred favorite. Gumball Head Thoughts 2 It’s bigger than Gumball, but since when would that surprise anyone?

Hmm, 64.2 IBU on 1.055 OG, that doesn’t come out too over the top?

Not really… Amarillo doesn’t read “BITTER” to me, so it works out pretty well. Lots of hop flavor, good punch, but a fair amount of wheat sweetness as well.

I figured w/ a name like “Gumball” it would have a sweet profile.

3F’s Gumball Head is a sort of American Wheat Pale Ale with a healthy helping of Amarillo. My GHT beer is really a Wheat IPA with Amarillo starring. You still get a fair amount of sweetness from the wheat though

I’ve got a batch of Midwest Supplies’ Raspberry Wheat (my first batch ever!) that I brewed on Sunday sitting in the fermenter. I’m eagerly awaiting the day I can drink the first one! (How can I get the yeast to go faster? :P)

Can’t help with this batch but get your next batch brewing as soon as you can.  Then you won’t be so impatient waiting on batch 2 since you’ll have batch 1 to sip on.

I am brewing my Hoppy Friday IPA on…yea you guessed it…Friday.

I’m kegging a Rye Pale Ale on Friday and then using some of the cake for an ESB on Sunday.  It’s for the US Open Beer Championship.  Still debating whether to either use the invert syrup #1 I made last month, blend a little blackstrap with the #1 invert to make a quasi #2 invert, or get some more Turbinado and make some #2 invert.

Dry hopping a DC RIPA and an all Centennial IPA. If my brown malt gets here, brewing Bll Pierce’s Rootin Tootin Rasputin so I’ll have a properly aged RIS for the winter.

Hey man, right on.  Sorry to hear about your brother, I’m sure he’d be delighted to have the beer named in his honor.

I won’t be brewing this weekend, I don’t think.  I need to make another bulk grain order for base malt; until then, I’ll be unable to brew.  It’s okay though, I’ve got plenty of beer in the pipeline.

Brewing an oatmeal stout, dry-hopping the IPA I brewed last weekend.

Münchener Helles

Probably going to keg an APA, but I don’t foresee much brewing time this weekend.
