I know AAA Fire Protection in Seattle Wa on 3rd avenue north does CO2 fills. They also sell 5&10 lb aluminum american made cylinders…
Any welding supply can fill your tank. I recently went to a paintball shop.
Wouldent you rather have food grade vs industrial grade CO2?
Industrial c02 is 99.0 percent pure. FDA requires “Food grade” to be 99.90 percent pure. To be “food grade” the gas undergoes 1 more test than the industrial stuff. To me it doesn’t matter. I’m sure there is a diffrence of opinion on this forum.
Airgas is another good option.
In my experience they only exchange bottles. Thats more expensive than just a refill.
Yes, it’s exchange only (at least at the one I go to). I think it’s $16 or $18 to swap a 10 lb. tank.
Not enough for me to care and I have found at least two refill places that do not give proper fills. I trust airgas and praxair. Also I never need to hydro the tanks, at least the locations I use don’t charge me.

They quoted me $30 for a 5lb tank.
Maybe I’ll try the food grade and see if there is a diffrence.
Bdudz as you can see there are many opinions and options.

That’s madness. I pay $16 for 10lbs. 20 would be $22

Not sure where everbody else is but I live in Southern CA. They like to price gouge.
Ventura County
FWIW, I have not had good luck with AirGas here in VT. They really gear towards commercial accounts, so a local Joe like me would get charged an arm and a leg for a swap, and they don’t offer to fill at all. I think they quoted me something crazy like $50 for a swap AND I had to use their tank. Luckily both LHBS’s that are near me offer exchanges for $15-18, so I do that. I had to give up my shiny new tank tho, so I recommend making peace with that now…

That’s bonkers.
Are airgas locations independently owned? That’s the only thing I can think of that would cause such a varied price experience.

I go to the one in Burbank, which I think is one of the larger hubs, but I used to go to the Northridge location (I work in the Valley).
They didn’t even charge me when I exchanged my original tank which needed a new hydro.
Same experience for me in Sac, Dallas, Oxnard, And Ventura.

Yeah, I don’t get it. I get a swap on 5 lb tanks at the local Airgas for $11. Not much more for 10 lb tanks.
HossierBrew, what’s your opinion on industrial vs food grade gas?

Food grade is more pure and purity is good in terms of maintaining freshness in your kegged beer IMO.
