This is a fairly old video but just watched it again and thought some others might appreciate it. This might be one thing I’d rather be doing than homebrewing. http://vimeo.com/18150336
Never fly higher than you’d like to fall…sage advice
That was one of the most intense five minutes of viewing pleasure I’ve had the opportunity to witness in recent years.
Just WOW! :o
:o
Two questions
- What sort of physical strain is it to control your descent?
- What’s the smoke for?
You would obviously want to be in fairly decent shape before hopping into a wing suit. The strain is not big of a factor as much as weight limit is. A 300lb person is not gonna be able to fly quite like someone that is 175lbs. A first time jumper might get a 35-45 sec. flight where as these guys are getting well over a min and 1/2 of free fall time. It’s suggested to have around 200 solo sky dives before attempting a wing suit however that’s probably not followed very often. The smoke is generally just used for tracking reasons.
One more question:
Is it necessary that you be of unsound mind. ;D
ABSOLUTELY! ;D
I’m almost of the belief that one couldn’t have it any other way.
I gotta say that if you know what you’re doing it looks like great fun, at least for a much younger person than me.
When I watch, all I keep thinking about is that the route they take is so important and has to be carefully planned before the jump. They come so close to the ground, but they have to have that drop off close by so they can keep gliding. Otherwise they couldn’t open their chute in time to land. Amazing.
I never want my son to EVER see this.
