WLP001 DRY Yeast experience

Just thought i’d share i have used this yeast recently on a whim, and am quite happy with it. Fast, clean and clears up quickly.

Yes, it is expensive, but it can be re used and i’m not overly concerned given how much i brew.

Don’t see a lot of reviews around it, though where i buy it from seems to sell a lot of it.

I used US05 in the early 2000s for most beers, but went off on a british ale tangent. Came back to US05 maybe 10 yrs ago and get peach with it everytime, so don’t use it anymore.

Anyone else here use it regularly ?

In the last few years ive used 029 german ale for hoppy beers. I find it very clean ( i dont use it for kolsh ) and a great performer. Thought i’d try a dry yeast

I’ve used WY1007 for IPA and BW, so not surprised at 029. After I went off 05, my go to became BRY97.

I’ve used dry WLP001 a few times, and it’s a reliable performer. Your observations–fast, clean, and quick to flocculate–matches with my own experience. Yes, it is indeed pricier than other dry yeasts, but then again I enjoy having the variety.

Like Denny, BRY-97 is my other go-to for American ales.

It’s great to have so many dry yeast options nowadays!

I tried BRY 97 but i felt it muted hops. I only used it once or twice though, so i might have just not used enough.

What made you go off US05?

I make a lot of IPA with and haven’t found that.

Same as you…the peach/apricot esters.

Ditto. Peachy flavors.
