I’m looking for a good theme for Wordpress for recipes, news and some nice pictures and tutorials. I don’t want to program complicated code nor learn powerful plugins like Slider Revolution.
It should be responsive and stylish and tidy and free. According to the motto: less is more - but not only after a few clicks on a picture. (That’s what all the marketing pages do - chic, but annoying.) Only a few symbols, two, three and three openers and a picture on the homepage are sufficient.
I bought Avada and some other templates, but this are marketing templates I’m not interested in, not themes for a hobbyist.
Because I’ve been searching for weeks and just can’t find what I’m looking for: Who can recommend me a good theme for Wordpress? Which themes do you use?
Can’t help you with a blog theme, but there’s a beerXML recipe plugin that Derek Springer created a few years ago that will take care of the recipe part. BeerXML Plugin for WordPress - Five Blades Brewing
This is a plugin you use in a wordpress installation with a theme. Sorry - but this was not my question.
(I know BeerXML, but I’m using json exporting my recipes.)
Atahualpa is a beautiful and functional theme, but it is outdated. The last update was 4 years ago. Wordpress warns against using (with a new installation). Modern functions such as responsive design are missing.
But the direction is good: several fields, boxes, nevertheless clear. Alternatives?
My homebrewing blog is on blogger but I operate a couple wordpress sites unrelated to brewing. One of those I host on wordpress and use one of their stock templates. It seems like if all you want to do is publish in a blog-like format any basic wordpress format should work but publish through pages rather than posts.
The themes you already own probably could satisfy your needs if you strip away all the unnecessary plugins and design features.
