Would it be a carnal sin to combine Trappist and French Saison yeasts?

El Franken Belgieze  pun intended  but what of the resulting beer?

opinions welcome… :stuck_out_tongue:

Saisons are a unique blend of france and belgium. Have at it!

I struggle to imagine what a carnal sin in homebrewing would be!

Uh…trappist monks blending with french farmers…There is a vision for your minds eye.

:o

I think you meant “cardinal sin” (serious lack of judgment) rather than “carnal sin” (getting busy with your neighbor’s wife).

Belgians are creative but watch out for flavor clashes.  Depends on what kind of strains you use.  I would probably try to avoid the combination of a saison strain that produces any sourness with a Trappist strain that produces a lot of phenols.  Sour + phenol makes me think ‘infected’ rather than ‘brilliant idea’.  But if you use ones that each give fruity complexity, then it might be pretty interesting.

I gotta start reading posts better… first off I missed the “carnal” “cardinal” thing - then I thought you meant mixing belegian and french saison strains. that said, I have found WLP565 can throw some clove like phenols so if you think you don’t want that in your saison you might not use that strain.

Actually I was thinking WY 1762 + WY 3711…maybe

Yeah you are right Gordon, I was being so so silly  ;D

Nom de Dieu…

I just figured 1v was asking if it would be a fucking mess of a beer…
