Question about yeaster starters. I have been creating them for about a year now, normaly 1 cup LME to 4 cups water and storing in a growler. For some reason with this starter the yeast seems to be really stuck on the bottom of the growler. Any suggestion for breaking it up, removing it? Swirling the growler usually does the trick, but I’m not having any luck getting all of the yeast to come off the bottom.
Maybe try putting the growler in the fridge for a couple of days (to get the yeast to all fall out of suspension) and then decant off “most” of the liquid. “Most” meaning leave maybe a pint. Then try the swirling again. With less liquid in there, you should be able to get much better agitation and hopefully have better luck getting the stuck yeast off the bottom.
after you’ve done the above, if still stuck then you might try sanitizing your racking cane really well and then using it to loosen up the compacted yeast
