Your best SMASH combos?

What are some of your fave SMASH combos? I have done:

Vienna/Saaz with WY1007
Golden Promise/Chinook with WY 1272
Pale 2 Row/Cacade with WY 1056
Marris Otter/EKG With Nottingham

and all were excellent! Looking to do another but split the wort into four 1 gallon fermenters and use different yeast in each.  Would love suggestions!

Rahr North Star pils/Hallertauer Mitt/Diamond lager

Excellent suggestion! Thank you!

Viking Extra Pale Malt, Magnum and Diamond lager yeast.  Pretty close to Denny’s and I have used Hallertauer Mittelfruh, both solo and with the Magnum as a late hop addition…but combining them isn’t Smash-ing it.  Cheers.

Pils Hallertau blanc s189

Viking pils/flash frozen"fresh" Crystal hops/OYL114 Bayern Lager

I have a plan to brew a Golden Promise, 2021 harvest Loral, Nottingham SMaSH Monday.  I need a quick turn beer to fill an empty keg.

Golden Promise/Willamette/WY1450

Vienna/Cascade/Am ale

If I may ask, where did you get your frozen hops from ?

Thanks

Riverbend Southern Select/Styrian Celeia/WY1762

US malt, Czech hops, Belgian yeast - best English-style beer I’ve brewed in ages

I got them for free, I think they partnered with the AHA or something for a giveaway. Not a lot of varieties available, but it turned out well enough I’ll probably do it again.

Yakima Chief sells flash frozen fresh hops

Doesn’t look like you can order them right now. The link goes to a closed form.

I visited their booth at Homebrew Con in June.  They had two year old samples that smelled as fresh as new.

So this may sound like a strange combo, but I’ve just brewed an incredible SMASH:
Malt: Maris Otter
Hops: Wakatu

I had to fiddle with it, as I didn’t have a chiller at my disposal that day  ::slight_smile:

For 8 litres of wort :

  • 2.5Kg of Maris Otter malt
  • 300g of oats (I wanted a creaminess, but it’s optional)
  • 10g of Wakatu at 30min.
  • 60g of Wakatu off-flame, I let it steep for 20 minutes then remove it.
  • 32G at D+5
  • 32g at D+20

The lemony taste of the Wakatu combined with the smooth, honeyed texture of the Maris Otter malt and oats was amazing, I got great feedback on this brew

EDIT: Sorry I used the “grams” unit by reflex, I am French, I could convert if needed

I recently brewed a German Pils that was BestMalz Pilsner, lots of Tettnang, and S23 yeast. It was delicious.

This is probably boring by modern standards, but one of the best things I’ve made recently was a simple pale ale with a single late addition of Willamette.

Just good “beer-flavored” beer.
