Classes to Improve

Just a goofy thought…I think there are some colleges or universities that might offer something along the lines of what OP is looking for, perhaps in the continuing education offerings? Maybe some are done online? I know back in the 2000s I taught a non-credit wine appreciation course for Indiana University South Bend. Funny how no one ever complained about the homework.

University of Oklahoma has a Chemistry of Beer course. I took it several years ago.

Another, but I don’t know anything about this one:

Auburn has one, too. But it’s oriented towards the going-pro crowd.

I think brewing styles new to you or deep diving on a given style or category can be a good way to learn more. For example, learning how to brew Czech lagers made me investigate more about those styles, recipes, water chemistry, processes, etc. If you brew/tweak/brew following that learning process, you’ll now be armed with more experience that you can apply to other styles. I did exactly this following prep for the BJCP exam. Hadn’t really had Czech lagers beforehand - found I liked them and decided to take a shot at brewing one. Forced me to spend more time looking at the detailed differences in water chemistry, hops, mash temps, etc. between these beers and German lagers.

Right on Denny, I’ve learned a lot reading “Simple Homebrewing” and I’ve been homebrewing for 23 years.
