Yeah, I have about 7 lbs in the freezer right now. 2 lbs go back to 2011 crop and I use them for bittering mainly. I honestly have no idea how much I bought, but I do know my lady hasn’t used the freezer door in 3 years. 12 might have been conservative.
Edit - and my roommates before I lived with my understanding lady were frustrated as well. But those were my whole hop days.
After smelling the hops I decided to change the boil schedule a bit. Pearl was removed and 1oz of Hull Melon was used with 15 minutes left in the boil. I was surprised how good the wort tasted. Strawberry, honeydew and tropical flavor are coming out really nice already.
My IPA is finally ready to drink. It took a little longer than usual to get the flavor I was going for. Now at 6 week’s post bottling the flavors have really come together well. Using hull melon to dry hop gives it a great smell. I should be popping open the Mosaic/Citra BIPA soon as well. I will be comparing this beer to my other Belgian IPA and a White IPA in the coming weeks. I will post impressions and images of all of these as well.
