Fining options

For science…

Just a follow up, cold crashed for a couple of days and the beer is crystal clear! No finings just finished beer and cold.

looks good. just a FWIW-clarity may be ok with you as is, however give the gelatin a shot and see the difference…than decide what level of clarity you’re happy with.
enjoy!

My Helles after 2 days using gelatin.

touche.

just saying you can get there either way. cold conditioning will take longer but if all is right, it will drop very clear.

i do it both ways -just depends on my timeline.

Ken, that looks gorgeous!

thanks. tastes pretty good now for the taste test, but 2-3 weeks from now it should be golden. new years eve we will break it out .

I have been using gelatin. I never realized that the beer should be cold first and have been adding it during transferring to the keg. Maybe that is why my beers don’t seem to clear as quick as I would like…

yeah during lagering and before transfer to my keg, i prepare the gelatin and put it in the keg, then rack on top of it mixing well. in a couple days at 32F, most drops out. it actually precips out a second time  as you bring it up to serving temps.

Good to know. Looks like I need to add gelatin to the keg while carbing in the fridge.

I usually use gelatin to clear up stubborn yeast that won’t drop.  I don’t believe that the beer needs to be chilled for this to work.  At least, in my experience it works fine at ~ 50F.

If you want to clear up chill haze, you need to chill the beer before you fine.

yeah i cant add anything on it working at warmer temps. when i use it, my beer is at its coldest temps right before racking…32-34F
