Give me cheap beer, or give me sobriety. Just stop this craft beer 'revolution' | Eleanor Robertson

This could be because chain restaurants are in food business and beer is just add on.

Its a stretch to say most of them are even in the food business. They’re in the reheating engineered corn syrup and factory farmed meat business.

Yes you are correct.

we like to go to a local franchise called Panini’s. great food and monster selection of craft beers. you can get everyday 16oz draft or 12oz bottle craft specials for $3.50-$4.50, 22oz drafts $5.50.

There is still a hope. Good to hear.

That’s the other reason we typically don’t eat at chains.

if you figure the average 6-pack sells for $9.99 in grocery store , that’s $1.65 a beer. selling that beer in a bar for even $3.50 is a nice and fair price - but $5-$7 a bottle or pint…robbery.

$3.50 maybe gets you a domestic.  Are local prices in Chicago really that much higher than everwhere else?  $5 pints are pretty standard and a good deal for craft beer or imports.

well in general the big cities are more expensive that greater cleveland. however, there’s always at least a few great places in big cities to find great beer at a great price.

When I lived in Davis, there was a burger place that had 2/$5 pints including Sierra, Sierra seasonal, Fat Tire, Lagunitas rotator. That was pretty awesome. The local country dive that had a million TV’s for football had $4 pitchers of PBR and ~$11 pitchers of many crafts during Monday Night Football

I am wondering if the author actually believes what she wrote in this article. My guess is she wrote it to get clicks and a reaction. Mission accomplished.

one less click here…just posting  ;D

That is 100% what I was thinking and why I didn’t share the article when I first saw it.

Plus if it’s something they don’t go through much of, they could be buying it at retail.

FWIW, we’ll be charging $5-6, but that’s for 1.2 US “pints”. The only places I routinely see pints over $5 are the higher-end ski areas. $6 for a 13.5 fl oz shaker glass. :o

Ken, I really miss Panini’s and the winking lizard. Neither are around down here in greater Cincinnati

I hear you steve, actually kind of sorry I was the one who posted it, but the rest of the thread has gotten pretty interesting, and at least a little reminiscent for me after leaving the Cleveland market and the chain restaurant industry. My chain was 100% made from scratch when I started there in 1993, but wholly and embarrassingly different by the time I left some 20 years later

what was your chain?

No names but frequently made fun of, especially in “Waiting” and “Office space.” BuT again, I should not name names after giving them 20 years of my life. I’m sure someone can figure it out and I don’t mind fielding guesses
Edit for typos

dude, those are horrible clues!  waiting and office space??? you’re going to give me an aneurism racking my brain  :o

First casual them chain, the one everyone copies
