Sounds like you just didn’t soak it up since you lived there. It has had a great beer scene for nearly 20 years. Sure there are newer breweries which get some hype or make the beeriodical headlines, but even without Wicked Weed, New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, and Oskar Blues the scene was fantastic. As far as Burial, I have found them hit or miss thus far.
I didn’t live in Asheville…

FWIW - word on the street is Hi-Wire is killing it currently. Previously they were mediocre at best, but many good friends are giving them high marks. Another in the area is Zebulon Artisan Ales out of Weaverville. There wares are stellar.

Zebulon is Mike Karnowski (aka Elvis). Used to be with Green Man and had a homebrew shop in New Orleans at one point.

Hi-Wire was excellent. They had some awesome sour and Brett beers when we were there.
