Only time will tell… I kept assuming that someone would look at a calendar and realize it’s possible for a business to open after 2/15 but before the shutdowns started, but that’s expecting a lot of Congresscritters. We had about two months’ operating expenses on hand for the opening so the situation really just got dire a couple weeks ago.
I am finally brewing again, so of course that makes me happy. We’re going to reopen the 20th/21st and take it from there. 6’ distancing gives us six seats for unrelated customers, so we may not be able to take in enough to be fully staffed, and 80-100 hour work weeks are getting old. Probably weekends only for the pub. Maybe beer to go every day. We’ll just have to see how it all shakes out.
How strictly are they enforcing the antisocial distancing rules there in your neck of the woods? I haven’t dined or drank in Leadville in a good many years but I’d expect a much more casual attitude than what you’d find in Denver. We’re supposed to maintain all that 6’ silliness and do the whole mask thing, but nobody seems to be paying more than lip service to the rules.
I actually went out for lunch for the first time since the Before Time today. Compliance was nil once everyone had a drink in them and I had to repeatedly ask people not to put another bar stool down next to me - given the implications for me getting a cold at this particular moment that’s not too far off from what I’d be doing anyway. I’m sure that’s the same scene anywhere though; it’s just human nature.
I remarked in another thread that the best thing any retail business could do right now is have their full plan in place for when we shut down again to flatten the second curve, and the third, the fourth… Fortunately we had a little cash on hand to stock up on gloves, masks, sanitizers, growlers and to-go containers, etc. once they became available again.
