“3v”? 3 vessel?
I think the only difference between my cheap-o cooler set up is that I spent about $30 total on a cooler, a stopper, a nylon valve and a braid. There have certainly been times in my life when I couldn’t spare the $30, but I wouldn’t consider that elitist.
On the other hand, I was able to get into all grain brewing thanks to the bargain nature of the cooler set-up. If BIAB had been around then, I’m sure I would have tried that first for the simplicity and the fact that I could have made a few small batches for the $2 that a paint strainer bag would set me back. I really like the idea of any method that allows brewers to take that first step into all grain as easily as possible.
“Water supply line”, please! ;D Toilet hose always reminds me of that scene in “Christmas Vacation” when Randy Quaid is emptying the camper storage tank into the storm drain. :o
Sh**ters full
Yeah and lots of them are doing BIAB and not complaining of the weight. check out this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk5goLlq8nw
Time is money glad I payed 40 bucks for my cooler b that looked like a lot of work to save 35 dollars IMO
I think BIAB is a viable technique for smaller batches. For 5 gal. or larger, it’s more hassle than it’s worth IMO. To each their own…
5 gal Dr Smurto Golden Ale this AM.
4 1/2 hrs from flame on to cleaned up.No hassle.
Likewise for me and my cooler system. There are a lot of ways to brew and people choose what works best for them. For me, BIAB isn’t a viable option.
i have used biab for small batches. i usually only do 2 gal. recently did my christmas weinachtsbier in 4 gallon. couldn’t find the plug for the cooler and just set it through a stopper in one of my buckets as a mash tun (supply hose ;D)
i bought a rival roaster for 14 bucks 22 quart. i am going to use this for a biab/mash set up. electric control for the mash, pull the bag out and put on to grate and rinse. then crank up the temp. should work great for 2 gallon batch. i just will need to modify a wort cooler
