2026 February Happy Hour - Beer Pairing for People Who Don't Have a Clue (and for Those Who Think They Do!)

Please join us on Thursday, February 5 at 5 pm MST for our next Happy Hour - brought to you by the AHA Community & Education Committee.

We will be joined by Denny Conn, homebrewer and beer educator, and Julia Herz, AHA Executive Director and beer educator.

Julia and Denny will talk all things beer pairings! After this meetup you’ll be on your way to pairings that will make your taste buds sing. And a bonus: bring your favorite beer style and a food item from your fridge (anything will work) so we can all pair together.

More about our guests:

Julia has been executive director of the AHA since 2021. Julia is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), BJCP Certified beer judge, Advanced Cicerone®, medal-winning homebrewer, and experienced zymurgist having made beer, mead, and fermented foods since 1994. Julia is the co-author of Beer Pairing: The Essential Guide from the Pairing Pros (Voyager Press, 2015), the CraftBeer.com Beer & Food Guide and Co-host of Sense of Beer Style Show.

Prior to joining the AHA, Julia was the craft beer program director and publisher of CraftBeer.com for the Brewers Association, where she led the development of the Brewers Association’s Independent Craft Brewer Seal.

Julia has been a guest on national media outlets including National Public Radio, Sirius/XM, CBNC Squawk Box and Closing Bell, Fox News, Good Morning America, the Food Network, and American Public Media’s Splendid Table.Happy Hours are open to all - AHA membership is not required.

Denny brewed his first batch of beer March 19, 1998 and since then has brewed 630 more. He pioneered the Cheap’n’Easy brewing system and championed batch sparging. Denny spent 16 years on the AHA Governing Committee.

His recipes have been brewed by homebrewers and commercial breweries all over the world. He has travelled the world, sometimes with co author Drew Beechum, judging competitions and presenting seminars on topics like recipe design, conducting experiments, and simplifying the brewing process. Denny has a strain of brewing yeast named after him (Wyeast 1450 Denny’s Favorite).

Along with Beechum, he has co authored 3 homebrewing books (Experimental Homebrewing, Homebrew All Stars, and Simple Homebrewing) and produced 2 brewing podcasts Experimental Brewing and The Brew Files). He loves to say “Don’t take beer seriously. It’s only beer. It’s about fun. If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong!”
