Almost there - AL senate gives passage to homebrew bill

One less thing to be embarrassed about living in AL! Assuming the gubner doesn’t do anything stoopids.

I heard most of the house debate yesterday on a Basic Brewing Radio podcast…unbelievable. I previously thought Florida was a bit behind the times, but these folks in the legislature! Worth a listen if you haven’t heard it.

congrats man!  long time coming.  we are finally catching up, at least beer-wise.

i’m also pretty jealous of the commercial selection you guys are seeing.  i’d say that craft beer is getting into mississippi slowly, but that is probably faster than it’s happening.

It’s a good start, assuming the governor signs it.  60 gallons a year is much better than 0 gallons a year.  Welcome to the 20th century  ;D and here’s hoping the legislature keeps loosening the restrictions as time goes bay.

Congratulations Alabama!!!

Nice, I thought it would get stuck again in the Senate this year and die like it did last year.  Glad to see they got it in before the recess.

I like the whole “chance to beat Mississippi” angle.  Could be a major selling point.  ;D

"Holtzclaw says Alabama has an opportunity to beat Mississippi since the Mississippi bill has a 90-day wait period to become effective and the Alabama bill would go into effect immediately with the governor’s signature. "

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Something for Alabama to consider next…

I’m really hoping you guys can finally make it into the 18th, err, 19th, errrrr, (as slowbrew said), the 20th century.  ::slight_smile:

Just another example of a government protecting one business over another.  Seems odd to require people at a bar to drink higher alcohol beers than people drinking at home.  Sounds like a conflict of interest in a way to make people more likely to DUI.

One line I found interesting was “Light versions of the big three — Coors, Budweiser and Miller — appear to have just enough alcohol to remain flowing.”  You just knew the big boys would be taken care of by the nanny state.

Maybe AL will be better.

This is a really weird state. Some parts, like Hunstville, are as modern as any city in the nation. Others are as backwoods and inbred as you can get. Driving from Huntsville to the Gulf is a weird 6 hours ride for sure. At least the beach is waiting at the end.

The really strange part of it all is after 20 years I’m starting to fit it. :o

But which part? ;D

the part that drives a pick up truck and eats bbq

Like Texas, and most of the south, that’s the entire state.

After living in Bama’ for 8 years (2 in B’ham and 6 in Mobile), I’d agree that the entire state is like that, but that’s not a bad thing.  I’ve been in CO for 8 years now and although I have a truck, man do I miss that BBQ.  Archibalds in Tuscaloosa, The Brick Pit in Mobile, Dreamland, Big Bob Gibson’s in Decatur, Moe’s and Full Moon and Saw’s in B’ham, Down South in Foley, etc…  I won’t mention Jim n’ Nick’s since we have one her in Denver.  I also can’t put Mike & Ed’s or Byron’s Smokehouse on the list since they are located in auburn and anything that comes out of auburn just sucks…Roll Tide!

Ah yes, colorful Colorado. Where you can find craft beer on every corner, unless that corner is a grocery store.
