As much as I like to dump on BA, the map author is not using the “beer” average, but the “place” average. So it’s based on the brewery tour/brewpub/taproom review , which far fewer people actually rate.
Prairie has had a long line of QC problems with their beers that justifiably earns low ratings. Personally I don’t think their beers are particularly great even when Prairie is on their game. Lots of mediocre renditions of the hypiest styles that fall far short of the beers people chase in the trading market.
Which is how Short’s is at the top for MI. A trip to Short’s is always a fun time. I can find a beer I like at the pub, as they have a lot of pub only beers there.
Never heard of the brewery listed for IN. Merrillville is far northern Indiana, a part of the state I don’t get to often. I’d think I’d have at least heard of it if it were that damn good. Whatever.
I live just over the border in Illinois, and I’d never heard of them, either. But when you look at their methodology, they based this on the brewery as a place rating rather than the beers. And their Indiana brewery only has 17 ratings
Figures. The highest rated Brewery in my state makes beer I don’t like. Last time I was there I didn’t finish the beer I ordered.
Won’t name names though. It’s a matter of taste I guess
Interdasting. I guess I need to start trolling the BA groups looking for trades. The “best brewery” in Louisiana only serves draft on-premise. Whalez breaux.
