I have been thinking about making a hopback for some upcoming beers. I might consider buying Blichmann’s Hop Rocket instead given the 120v RIMS rocket adapter they are offering. This seems like an inexpensive way to manage mash temperature. Unfortunately, there seems to be very little information out there on the RIMS device.
Who has one? Has it been effective? How quickly does the temperature rise? Any quality issues? How hard is it to wire to a 3rd party PID?
It’s just an element, you will still require a controller to set temp. You could go as simple as an stc 1000. As far as times, it will depend on the voltage delivered to the element. It is 2000 watt, so it should compare to other 2000w elements. Being a 2000w element, you will need to use a 20a circuit.
