Hi everyone and good morning >>>>Fraking Hot here in Cali!!
Since I received great advice on my Citrus Mistress recipe :)… Can you guys critique this Blond ale
FYI: You guys should be paid consultants… BUTafter you give me advice…LOL
This might be slightly hoppier than the averages I see for blond ales which are in the ranges of 18-22 or so IBU and low 5% abvs that Ive seen… My BU/GU ratio is: .48 The Beer style BU/GU charts Ive seen indicated to be around 0.47 for the BU/GU ratio
Grist:
Golden promise: I love the way it taste… sweet clean and slightly malty
Vienna: for that sweet maltyness but not as strong as Munich
Crystal 10: Give it a slight bit of color and sweetness + body
carapills: Give it some head retention and some slight chewiness Hops: basically wanted a clean bittering and that citrus, orangees, grapefruit taste+aroma

Recipe looks great to me! I think you will get a nice balance of hops and malt from your selections. I did not see what type of yeast strain you are going to use? English, American?

Ok now your getting tricky on me…LOL… So you mean; (Im just learning to play around with Hop schedules)
So Hops schedule would look like this: Whirlpool Utilization: I use 10% I read it somewhere…LOL (How do you calculate your flame out time, is their a standard typical time?

It will still have bittering but that bettering may be perceived as smoother. Blonde ale isn’t really bitter- dropping the 20 minute addition on option 3 and upping the other additions might be the way to go. Keep in mind you snot need to please some random guy (me) on the forum. FWIW I like all late (less than ten minutes) hops in a blonde ale but YMMV

If you care about style, don’t go with too much hop flavor. If you do, your essentially making a very light colored apa. I don’t care about style, so I would give it a whirl without thinking twice.
Here is the Blonde I made this summer for our RV trip. You can find the original post recipe(I did not create it) in recipes as Blondie’s Ale. It was my first attempt at a Blonde and it was great at the end of every long day of driving: light, refreshing, and easy drinking. Pretty simplistic grist, single bittering charge with low IBUs. Quick turnaround time from start to finish. Yours looks good as well, but no other experience with the style for me to add anything further

Notes:
I make hoppy blondes a lot. They are delicious. I have tried entering them in BJCP contests. No luck. Entered as a blonde they have too much hop flavor and aroma. Entered as APA they are too small, not bitter enough, and not enough hop flavor and aroma. Conundrum. But, they sure do taste good.
Thanks, for sharing your experience and your recipe Looks and I bet is as tasty as you describe it! …I formulated the one I posted originally with 3% honey malt. Just like yours
too give it that slight honey sweetness… But then I decided to take it out and do it on another batch so I could see how it compares… : ) will have to share it with you everyone!
Sorry to hear that you didnt win! But at least from your description i bet your recipe is kickazz! Bet its goooood!
Gonna have to share some time
I think this tim, I’m gonna do as most have suggested, brew it as I have it scheduled for hops#3 revised and see how it comes out. Then next batch I will go by the style “rules” and see how that compares
Tomorrow gonna run over to my brew shop here in Sacramento, CA. And get my Blondie so I can brew this Saturday maybe
Looks a little hoppy for how I like my blonde ales. The recipe Frank posted is just as delicious as it sounds(I should know it’s my recipe [emoji6] ). +1 to honey malt being in the grist, Nice subtle sweetness.
